Day 20

Hello. My name is Jennifer. I am a logophile. (Now, get your minds out of the gutter! Shame on you!) Logophile simply means that I love "words". My favorite class in college was History of the English Language, and my favorite Jeopardy category is Word Origins. I actually enjoy trying to figure out what a word might mean based on its Latin root. I love Scrabble and Boggle and Text Twist. My mom definitely passed on her love for word games to me.

So I was tickled pink when I found this website. I mean, haven't you ever wondered how to pronounce contemporaniety or rabelaisian or perhaps, gabaergic? The dictionary is handy but actually being able to hear how to pronounce them--even with multiple or foreign pronunciations--now, that's cool! I played around for quite a while just listening to the nice man with the English accent pronounce lots of strange words. Because, you know, I don't have anything better to do.............

Which one (if any) of your children inherited the trait?? Taylor definitely has my love of all trivia (the more non-useful, the more interesting!)

Another good source for word games is on kewlbox (free). My favorites are fowlwords, wordo and writer's block!

Okay, I'll admit it. My first thought was "Geek!" But then I was thinking that I loved to read as much as you do, and while I'm not sure I get into great words by themselves, I do appreciate how they are strung together.
