Now, I'm sure Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana is a lovely girl but I have to say there are a couple things about this whole episode that have me scratching my head.
- First of all, the photoshoot was for Vanity Fair magazine. I repeat VANITY. FAIR. We are not talking about Good Housekeeping people. Why would her parents allow her to be on the cover of that poor-excuse-for-journalism magazine in the first place?
- The photographer was Annie Liebowitz. I repeat ANNIE. LIEBOWITZ. Not Anne Geddes. Surely they didn't expect their little Miley to be curled up in a ball and perched in a sunflower?? Most of Liebowitz's photographs are downright pornographic. I don't think even sweet Miley could make that leopard change her spots.
- They expect us to believe that no one, no one with semi-good judgment, saw those photos BEFORE they went to print? Surely someone, somewhere had to approve the photo layout.
- Why on earth would any parents leave their under-age child in the middle of photo shoot? I don't care if Grandma and the world's best agent were still there. It's crazy!
- All the information helping parents to "explain" this to their children cracks me up. First of all, to the best of my knowledge, my 12-year old (who is our resident Hannah Montana fan) has NO idea this has even happened, and I don't intend on making a "teachable moment" out of it. The less she knows, the better, if you ask me. And she certainly isn't going to be reading Vanity Fair. I don't understand why we need the "Children's Mental Health Correspondents" on all the morning talk shows to tell us how to say to our kids "What she did was wrong. We all make mistakes. Hopefully Miley will make a wiser choice the next time. Unfortunately, her bad choice this time comes with big consequences." I don't care one bit about preserving Miley's "pure as the wind-driven snow" reputation for my daughter. This was stupid with a capital "S". Seems pretty simple to me.

totally agree! my kids haven't heard anything about it but my question too is why put her on vanity fair?? how bout tiger beat or seventeen?
It is sad and frustrating to me how the media in the US just pounces on these types of stories and blows everything way out of proportion. From what I've seen and heard in the past Miley, Billy Ray and their family are all Christians. She messed up by agreeing to have the one pose with a blanket wrapped around her top while her shirt was off. I went on the Vanity Fair website and the rest of the photos looked fine. Completely appropriate for her age etc., including some shots with her Dad. I did read that he left the shoot before it ended.....also being blown way out of proportion. Can you imagine her crazy schedule? She is a teen. My older kids are dropped off here and there all the time. I think this photo shoot was one of 1000's that she's done. It's not like it was her first one. The behind the scenes pics show Billy Ray there with his younger daughter sitting and watching.
It is shameful of Vanity Fair for exploiting her to make money. She made a mistake, she's human just like the rest of us. The media is just as bad. They can't wait to tear somebody apart. Just one more reason why we shouldn't be idolizing anyone, especially a pop star, other than JC.
How sad. I like her music... but the "show biz" world is scary!

Of course the media doesnt include her apology to the world. she is embarrassed of the photos and being in the moment, the photos they saw didnt 'seem' so bad.
the media, gotta love em. oh well. lesson learned. my advice to ANY child, NEVER EVER put a hollywood star on a pedestal.

The only hitch is that my kids hear about the whole thing at gymnastics or field hockey practice and the other children have usually embellished a thing or two.
We have been weaning our kids from the show for a while because of the increasing need for the storyline to encourage boy/girl craziness and often a disrespect for authority.
I watched a clip of the photo shoot and she (Miley) was walking around with her dad (as mentioned in a previous comment)wearing the same black tank that she wore in the photo with him, sprawled out with her stomach exposed.
Amazingly enough, during the walk-around portion of the shoot, the tank was long enough to go to her hips, but during the photograph....WITH HER FATHER....the tank had mysteriously shrunk several sizes exposing her gut.
Don't tell me that happened by accident. I am imagining the photographer saying something like, "O.K., now raise your shirt...."
And here is where dad or daughter could inject a....
"WHOA LADY!"
I am not falling for the banana in the tailpipe here. Dad was there. They knew (and know) exactly what was going on.
The photo of her with her dad is horrible.
Horrible.
HORRIBLE.
Sorry. I just cannot fathom my daughters posing with their dad having their shirts hiked up.

I would have to agree with Kim's rant! Did not like the photos taken with her father.
