A Recipe MUST..

Oh MY-LANTA, are these good!! You simply MUST try them at your first opportunity. Jeff says they are wonderful with a glass of cold milk. Naturally, I would not know that because I don't drink milk. But I can tell you that they are good with a cold Coke too!

Chocolate Caramel Yummy

1 small can evaporated milk
14-ounce bag of caramels
1 German Chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup melted butter
1, 12-ounce package chocolate chips

In a double boiler, stir 1/3 cup evaporated milk and unwrapped caramels until melted and smooth. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a mixing bowl, combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. This will make a wet dough.

Press half of the dough into the bottom of a well-greased 9 x 13 baking dish and bake 6 minutes at 350 degrees.

Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips, then top with caramel mixture, and drop remaining dough randomly over the top.

Return to the oven for 14 to 18 more minutes.

Enjoy!

Incidentally, I had to use a Devil's Food cake mix because apparently, the poor excuses for grocery stores here in Maryland have not heard that there are more varieties of cake mixes than chocolate, yellow, marble, white, and the occasional carrot. At Meijer in Grand Rapids, (Oh, Meijer, how I miss thee!), there was almost an entire aisle of cake mixes. It was amazing! Not so in Maryland.

However, in Maryland, we are fortunate enough to have Pomegranate Burst ice cream. When I was perusing the ice cream selection last week, I laughed out loud when I saw that flavor. The poor man stocking the shelves looked at me strangely and so I said "Who in the world is going to buy Pomegranate Blast ice cream?" He nodded and said sadly "I hope someone likes it. They made me buy two cases of it." Yeah--good luck with that. I imagine I'll see it in the clearance section in two weeks. I won't be trying it, that's for sure. I was too busy stocking my cart with the Moose Tracks that was on sale. Now, THAT'S what I call ice cream!

Ok - now I don't think it's very fair that you post that yummy specimen of a treat and don't make me some right in my very own kitchen - I'm hungry for a tasty treat!!!! And, amen, on the milk. Jeff and Katie can't drink enough - Taylor and I barely moisten our cereal with it =]

I think the Pomegranate Burst Ice Cream sounds simply delightful! I will be looking for it at Meijer, right after I pick up a German Chocolate cake mix!

yummmmmy! I'm sure it's as lo-cal as the ice cream cake I blogged about the other day?
don't complain about your VAST ice cream flavors in MD...I don't know what's up with FL, but I have to HUNT for good ice cream flavors here and they almost NEVER put ice cream on sale! I'm an ice cream addict (as you know!) but I WILL NOT pay $5.79 for a gallon of ice cream...sheesh!

The recipe sounds yummy! Sorry to hear that you have one minor flaw in your character. I love milk! I think I'll pass on the ice cream flavor. Guess I'll walk right on my to the mint chocolate chip or coconut nut fudge.... Denise

When I was at Yoder's the other day I saw Turkey Hill has green tea, mango ice cream. I didn't need any at the time, but I do want to try it. I have had blueberry-pomegranate drink and it was bad, despite the anti-oxidants.
I had a recipe like the one you printed from Anne Kinney, years ago. I was looking for it to compare it, but couldn't find it. The main thing I remember is the german chocolate cake. Beth is home now, maybe I'll ask her if she has a copy.
