Happy Birthday Brooke!

I'm combining two posts today--it's Tuesdays Unwrapped over here--and it's Brooke's 17th birthday.

Emily is asking where the time went as she prepares to send her twins off to kindergarten. I am asking the same question, but I am at the other end of the spectrum! Brooke is 17 today! I remember crying the day I sent her to kindergarten, and it seems like just yesterday. Now we are knee-deep in college conversations, senior pictures, and the inevitable, looming "independence" we long for when they're little and frantically try to stop as they grow.

The above picture was taken while Brooke was in Morocco two weeks ago. I apologize for the blurriness but I LOVE her expression. These were some of the children she was teaching while they were there, and I love the unguarded moment that was captured as she laughed and interacted with them. It didn't matter that most of the children spoke no English, they communicated just fine with giggles and belly laughs!

Brooke is amazing. We are so proud to be her parents. We cannot wait to see what God has for her. But for now, as she begins the process of stepping out on her own, we will "unwrap" every moment and anticipate all the adventures and blessings that lie ahead for her. We will "hold on" even as we let go, and we'll trust that God will answer the many prayers that have been prayed for her. Happy Birthday sweet Brooke! We love you.

I hope when my kids are 17 I can speak so highly and proudly of them. She's a beautiful girl. :)

It's so nice to see that you're so proud of Brooke! I'm sending my oldest off to college in two weeks, so I know how you're feeling these days. Hang on to your hat! 17 is a busy, important year. Bless you!
