Can you say B-U-S-T???

We had a great time in Myrtle Beach. That is, if you consider the following "great".........

A revoltingly gross hotel room. We went to this same resort four years ago and had a great experience, but this time was just plain awful. I may be over-reacting a bit, but I'm pretty sure that water coming through our bathroom fan from the bathroom in the upstairs condo is wrong and repulsive. No other way to say it. Don't ever, ever, I repeat, EVER go here.

Average temperatures of about 100 degrees with 150% humidity. Every. Single. Day.

NO clothes dryer until Wednesday. Now this may not seem like a big thing, except that the laundry facilities were one big reason we chose this "hotel" in the first place AND we only had four pairs of underwear each for an eight-day trip. You do the math......

Winds of 20-30 mph the last two days. It was unreal. Sand blowing and waves rolling. And more sand. And flip flops and boogie boards blowing down the beach. And more sand. And the pages of some poor man's book manuscript dancing all over the beach. And more sand.

Waiting in line for hours at the Nascar Speedway and getting on only three rides. And then seeing three women faint from the heat and get taken away by ambulance.

Eleven hours to get home. For a trip that should normally take 7-8 hours. But it was all good. We were TOGETHER--all six of us---for ELEVEN hours in a mini van---sitting or crawling at the speed of a turtle for most of it. But it was all good. We. were. TOGETHER. **ahem**

Really, we had lots of laughs---what else could we do??--and made lots of memories that will probably be funnier in a few weeks, errrr years. The kids LOVED Myrtle Waves and, much to my surprise, we all enjoyed The Dixie Stampede.

I got lots of reading done AND, thanks to the Baileys, we discovered our new favorite fast food treat. We enjoyed them more times than we should have but eased our consciences by repeatedly assuring ourselves that we couldn't get them "up north" so we had to enjoy them while we could.

I don't mean to sound whiny or ungrateful; it was great to get away and especially nice to spend time with Baileys and worship with them at their new church. But it definitely wasn't "the trip of a lifetime", that's for darn sure! As always, it's good to be home. Never mind that we are still finding sand in "places" we didn't even know we had.

Finally, a few pictures. Most of these were taken while the gale-force winds were afflicting us, so that accounts for the "windswept" look!

The VeStrand kiddos, 2007

Sweet Brooke. Wasn't she just three yesterday?

Sydney enjoying the surf.

Brooke riding the waves to shore.

Handsome surfer dude!

Sawyer playing in the sand.

Sawyer posing for the camera.

This would be "hair" at approximately 25 mph.

Sydney wasn't holding on at all. The wind was keeping the board in place! It's amazing SHE didn't blow away! (All 58 pounds of her.)

Payton ready to race at the NASCAR Speedway.
