Customer service at its best.....

So, I'm in the grocery store yesterday. Same store I go to every week. Minding my own business. Trying to make the most of my time so I can do all the errands I need to do, get home, unload all the grocery goodness, start a load of laundry, think about dinner, and maybe get a nap before everyone gets home. (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)

As I was checking out, and watching my grocery total climb steadily, the clerk started to giggle. I looked at her questioningly, wondering what was so funny.

"You always look so mean when you come in here every week." she said, between chuckles.

"Excuse me?" I gaped, hardly believing what I was hearing.

"I mean, I'm sure you're a very nice person but you always look so mean when you're shopping." she explained.

"Well, I don't think I'm mean. I'm just trying to get lots done and I'm concentrating on what I'm doing." (That's what I said. "What the heck is your problem? Leave me alone and let me shop." is what I was thinking)

She was clearly embarrassed but, at that point, the damage was done.

What the heck was that??? I'm not sure if I was offended because she was right or because she was being so rude stating it out loud. Sheesh...........

Oh, man! That was very rude. I think after I got my speech back, I would have asked if she wanted to repeat that in front of her store manager. Yikes!! I am sorry you had to go through that. (((HUGS))) Denise in PA (PW)

You know it's funny because after having kids I'm much more peturbed by mankind. I used to love humanity despite alll its weirdness, but now everyone just seems to be slowing me down, getting in the way, or making judgments about my mothering. Don't they know I have a million things to do and I'm doing the best I can? Get out of the way and leave me alone!

Maybe I can be delightful again in 20 or so years. Oh jeeze! I hope so!

Jen! I am cracking up! I know exactly what you are talking about. Steve and the girls always say how mean I look to the check out people even when I'm being nice. If I run in somewhere for takeout they always ask me when I get back in the car who I fought with at the counter. It's like the family "joke" -- Mean Mommy. After all, if I have to stick up for myself it's not my fault the check out people can't do their jobs right and i have to correct them, right? :) I guess those new self-check-out lanes aren't so bad after all, huh?
