I had the misfortune of needing to go to Wal-mart yesterday. As is typical, I couldn't find what I needed because, naturally, it wasn't where it usually is.
After wandering around for a few minutes, I saw a man wearing the always-recognizable blue vest and walked over to him and asked if he knew where I could find what I was looking for.
He looked at me confused and said "What?'
I repeated my question, and he mumbled "No understand."
I sighed (probably too loudly) and walked away. Then I chuckled quietly as I realized it was no small irony that I had been looking for an AMERICAN flag.
If you would like to live here and work here (legally please) and take advantage of all this wonderful country has to offer, please learn to speak the language. Thank you.

Have to say that I agree with you about speaking the English language. I really enjoy your blog.
Why was he working at Wal-Mart in a position to help customers if he couldn't speak English? I just don't understand what his manager was thinking!
Now, Jen, you know you just need to stay out of Walmart! LOL!! Even though I do "work" there doing cards for Hallmark, I make certain everyone knows that I do NOT work for Walmart. I don't even shop at our local Walmart anymore. The store manager is awful and I refuse to spend my money in her store. I have not shopped there for a year now and rarely shop at other Walmarts. Now that I am done ranting about Walmart in general....I totally agree that anyone wanting to live and work in this country needs to be able to speak the language.
