Tuesdays Unwrapped...

Today, I am participating in "Tuesdays Unwrapped" over at one of my favorite blogs www.chattingatthesky.com. If you've never visited there, you should! I assure you that not only is Emily a great writer and photographer with a beautiful family, but she will also dispel any fears you may have about painting your kitchen cabinets black--if in fact, you've ever experienced those fears. But, either way, check it out. It's delightful!

So today our assignment was to look for the good in the messy, unexpected, very ordinary places. As a natural-born pessimist, this was not an easy task for me. But last night, while I was walking Sofie and listening to my iPod, I snapped out of my own little pessimistic world for a minute and noticed how very lovely our very ordinary street looks during this springtime season, and I realized that I had found "good in the ordinary."

If you read my blog with any regularity, you know that I am one of the most "unsummer" people there ever was. I hate the hot weather. I hate the humidity. I don't like to swim. I don't enjoy the beach. But, last evening, as I was walking along and sweating bullets in our recent 90-degree weather, I noticed how beautiful our winding street looked with all its blossoming crabapples and flowering dogwoods and well-manicured lawns.

Now, I assure you that our street is very ordinary, nothing special. Definitely not a "fancy schmancy" neighborhood street. But, last night, as I was looking for the good in the messy and the ordinary (after all, there isn't much clean and exciting about walking along swinging the doggy doo bag), I realized that I might just live right IN that good on my very ordinary street.

Suddenly, it didn't matter so much that we didn't live in one of those aforementioned fancy neighborhoods. It didn't matter that I have light blue siding (ick!). It didn't matter that my own landscaping could use some attention. For that moment, I was most thankful for our very ordinary house on our very ordinary street given to us by a very extraordinary God!

This is awesome! I love your beautiful street. More, I love that your pessimism was able to take a back seat for a time :) I can relate to that character trait, let me just tell you. Thank you for the link and your kind words!
